About Xiang La Hui

Nestled in the heart of Alhambra at 621 W Main St, Xiang La Hui stands as a culinary gateway to the bold, fiery flavors of Sichuan province. This Chinese bistro has carved a niche for itself by honoring the authenticity of Sichuan cuisine while prioritizing freshness and health-conscious preparation methods. Every dish reflects a commitment to tradition, from the numbing heat of Sichuan peppercorns to the layered complexity of chili-infused oils, offering diners an immersive experience that transcends ordinary takeout.

The restaurant’s philosophy centers on meticulous ingredient selection, sourcing only the freshest produce, premium meats, and aromatic spices to craft dishes that balance intensity with nuance. Signature offerings like Dan Dan noodles—a staple of Sichuan street food—showcase this approach, combining chewy housemade noodles with a rich, spicy sauce of minced pork, chili oil, and preserved vegetables. For those seeking communal dining, the menu features shareable plates such as toothpick lamb, mapo tofu, and boiled fish with rattan pepper, each designed to highlight the region’s trademark málà (numbing-spicy) profile.

Beyond its culinary prowess, Xiang La Hui fosters a welcoming atmosphere where rustic decor and attentive service complement the dining experience. The space strikes a balance between cozy and contemporary, making it ideal for both casual lunches and lively group dinners. Patrons like Tony Y. have praised the restaurant’s inviting ambiance, noting its appeal even on rainy days, where steaming bowls of noodle soup provide comfort alongside expertly calibrated spice levels.

Operational hours cater to diverse schedules, with weekday service split between lunch (11:30 AM–3:00 PM) and dinner (5:00 PM–9:00 PM), while weekends offer extended hours from 11:30 AM to 9:00 PM. This flexibility ensures accessibility for office workers, families, and late-night diners alike. The inclusion of takeout options further underscores the restaurant’s adaptability, allowing guests to enjoy Sichuan classics like cumin-spiced skewers or garlicky cucumber salads in the comfort of their homes.

What sets Xiang La Hui apart is its dedication to healthier cooking techniques without compromising authenticity. By avoiding excessive oils and artificial additives, the kitchen delivers nutrient-rich dishes that remain true to their origins—a rarity in a genre often associated with heavy seasoning. This approach resonates with health-conscious patrons seeking bold flavors that don’t sacrifice balance or quality.

For those uninitiated in Sichuan cuisine, the staff’s expertise provides guidance, whether navigating spice levels or recommending pairings like cooling cucumber salads to offset fiery entrees. The restaurant’s location in Alhambra—a hub for diverse Asian culinary traditions—positions it as a standout destination for both locals and visitors exploring Southern California’s vibrant food scene.

With its fusion of tradition and innovation, Xiang La Hui invites diners to embark on a sensory journey through Sichuan’s culinary landscape, one where every bite tells a story of craftsmanship and passion. Whether savoring hand-pulled noodles or sharing a sizzling hot pot, guests leave with a deeper appreciation for the artistry behind China’s most celebrated regional cuisine.

This spot is an absolute haven for chili lovers. Every dish comes out glistening, intensely fragrant, and packed with that intoxicating, smoky wok hei. The spice here is authentic, layered, and deliciously persistent—not just gimmick heat, but deep, savory Hunan craftsmanship. Order family-style, bring a crowd, and don't skimp on the rice! Easily one of the top spots in town for serious Chinese regional cuisine.

I love the Sichuan cuisine of this casual Chinese restaurant in Alhambra. I tried dining in once and two days later I ordered delivery from it.

This review is long overdue. I visited Alhambra several months ago and decided to eat at Xiang La Hui after weighing all of my dining options that evening. I'm glad I did because it was a great experience. Even after all of these months I'm still thinking about the food! Everything was hot, nicely plated, and tasted just right. Flavors were nicely balanced and entrees are sizable. I felt like I got my money's worth. The service was nice too. You feel welcomed as a customer and aren't rushed, which I appreciate. If you live close to this restaurant, or are planning to visit or pass through Alhambra, then I recommend giving Xiang La Hui a try. I'd eat here more often if I could! I'll certainly go back someday.

Yum! We were actually on our way to another sichuan food restaurant close by and drove by this place and decided to give it a shot. I’m so glad we did! Most of the food here is delicious and authentic, and it definitely has more of a homey feel. Mapo tofu - delicious, I can just eat this with rice Wonton in chilli oil - also delicious and generous with dumplings Golden corn (basically deep fried corn with salted egg) - surprising standout, must order! Deep fried intestines/ offal - very good too, will order again. Happy chicken - a tad on the dry side, will skip. Pork belly dish - good and a nice respite from the stinging heat of all the dishes. Don’t get me wrong, the spice was strong, but in a good way. Ordering is done via QR code and service was quick. Great option for a quick meal!

Great service, friendly and comfortable atmosphere. The Chong Qing Chicken is delicious with big chunks of chicken and the house rice is some of the best I’ve had in awhile. We could use a spot like this in Ventura. Can’t wait to try their other dishes
